Biography
Shelby Still is an experienced biologist turned regulatory compliance expert with a diverse background in research information security, export controls, pre-clinical research, and research ethics. Skilled in ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, Shelby brings a comprehensive understanding of compliance requirements to drive organizational success.
After completing her master’s degree in biology from Auburn University in 2019, Shelby served as a research assistant before she transitioned from a career as a biologist into managing the Animal Care and Use Program’s training and unit operations at the University of Cincinnati. At the University of Michigan, Shelby served as Research Information Security Manager and NISP Security Officer, maintaining facility and personnel clearances and ensuring compliance with federal cybersecurity and export control laws and regulations, including overseeing the implementation of System Security Plans and OPSEC plans. She also served as a working group member of the Insider Threat Program and Export Control Review Committee, oversaw the CUI training program for the institution, and facilitated collaboration between Research Information Security Oversight, Information Technology, and Information Assurance units.
Shelby’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Zoology with a minor in Conservation and Biodiversity and a Master of Science in Biology. Her master’s thesis focused on the effects of methylmercury exposure in songbirds and how it impacts song production, stress response, and spatial cognition. She also served as an adjunct instructor at the University of Cincinnati Blue Ash campus teaching introductory biology courses and laboratories. Her research experience includes positions as a research assistant at both the University of Cincinnati and Cincinnati Children’s Center for Stem Cell and Organoid Medicine.
