Insight Implementation
INSIGHT is a comprehensive application to manage the grant and research funding process. INSIGHT centralizes IRB approval, contract management, regulatory compliance, study budgeting, and financial management into a single application.
Insight Training
You should have received an email from do_not_reply@lms.emory.edu (the Brainier Learning Management System) with your assigned training modules and instructions. However, if you log into your Emory HR Self-Service Portal and select "Learning Management," then choose "Learning Management - Brainier," your Learning Center will open with a list of "Assigned Trainings." Assigned courses can also be found under the “Assigned" tab in My Learning. You may also browse all Insight-related trainings by searching for the “Insight" tag.

What Needs to be Submitted in Insight
Individuals should disclose potential conflicts of interest and commitment during their external and University education, research, scholarship, or service. All external relationships, both domestic and international, must be transparent and disclosed in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and Emory University policies.

To submit:
Disclosure Profile Updates (My Updates) – updating of outside activity, relationship, or interest with an external organization.
complete the following steps:
- Log in to Insight
- From the menu on the left, click Disclosures. The Disclosures module opens.
- You can also navigate here by clicking Disclosures on the Insight home page.
- In the same menu on the left, click My Updates. The My Updates page open with instructions at the top and a table of our approved external activities below.
- The table includes columns for Entity Name, date Last Updated, Incomplete status, and an icon to open a PDF summary of the disclosure.
Annual Certifications (My Annual) – yearly requirement during the Annual Certification Cycle for outside activity, relationship, or interest with an external organization related to your institutional responsibilities.
complete the following steps:
- Log in to Insight
- On the Dashboard, you will see the Annual Disclosure form appear under the Disclosures module in the Activates for Review list. Click the Annual Disclosure form required. The Emory Annual Disclosure form instruction page opens.
- You can also navigate here by clicking Disclosures on the Dashboard or the menu on the left, then clicking Activities for Review.
- The Annual Disclosure form must be completed between December and February. NOTE: This function will be available only during the Annual Certification cycle.
- Review the Emory Annual Disclosure Form instructions and click Start Annual Cycle.
Insight job aids -
An outside activity involves personal, professional, commercial, or financial efforts with external entities, utilizing the same expertise, service, or knowledge you provide to Emory University.
Outside activities include:
- Activities and relationships (paid or unpaid)
- Employment
- Consulting
- Service on Boards
- International engagements
- Intellectual property (IP) rights
- Ownership interest (equity, stock, or stock options)

To submit an external activity request, complete the following steps:
- Log in to Insight
- From the dashboard or the left menu, click "Agreements." The Agreements module opens.
- From the navigation menu on the left, go to Actions and click Create Agreement. The Create Agreement screen displays.
- In the middle of the screen, navigate to the External Activities panel and click the button that says, “Yes, I am submitting a record related to external activities.” Additional questions will display below

All federally funded investigators must report external appointments at non-US institutions as an External Activity, including any external funding, stipends, salaries, or honoraria, as per the Faculty Handbook, Section 13.3.A.
Adding Travel (My Travel)
complete the following steps:
- Log in to Insight
- From the menu on the left, click Disclosures. The Disclosures module opens.
- You can also navigate here by clicking Disclosures on the Insight home page.
- In the same menu on the left, click My Travel. The My Travel section opens.
- On the right of the page, click Add Travel. A New Travel form displays.
Viewing and Searching for Travel
complete the following steps:
- Log in to Insight
- From the menu on the left, click Disclosures. The Disclosures module opens. a.
- You can also navigate here by clicking Disclosures on the Insight home page.
- In the same menu on the left, click My Travel. The My Travel section opens with travel from the current year appearing automatically.
- If needed, click Close Panel in the panel on the right to close the side menu and provide more space to view the travel table

Insight FAQs
DCR stands for Design, Conduct, and Reporting of research. It is what defines a Covered Individual from policy 7.7. All Covered Individuals i.e. those checking yes to being involved in DCR will need to complete their COI profiles at Annual Certification and keep them updated with any new financial interests throughout the year.
A covered individual is a person responsible for the design, conduct, or reporting (DCR) of Emory Research, which always includes the Principal Investigator or Project Director. In addition, other persons may include, but are not limited to:
- Senior/Key Personnel, consultants, postdoctoral fellows, trainees, visiting scientists, and Research personnel (e.g., Research coordinators, Research nurses, etc.);
- External Collaborating Entities/Individuals and Subrecipients who do not have a policy compliant with 42 CFR Part 50 Subpart F and 45 CFR Part 94;
- Students enrolled at Emory who are responsible for the design, conduct, or reporting of Research managed by Emory under a grant or contract. A student's supervising faculty member who is in doubt about whether the student is a Covered Individual must request a determination by the COI Official.
Only active and completed PARs in eDisclose (submitted as of August 22, 2025) will be migrated to Insight; this excludes submissions of clarifications or pre-submissions required.
Submissions not approved in eDisclose by noon on Thursday, August 28, 2025, will not be transferred to Insight; the submitter must re-enter the information into Insight (as an EAR) for further review and approval.
